Ya.V. Goryacheva

On the example of one of the most famous work of the composer – the piano cycle «Roman Sketches» (op. 7) – an attempt was made to trace the most important aesthetic, stylistic, genre and language parallels between the piano works of K. Debussy, M. Ravel and the Griffs cycle. In the piano cycle «Roman Sketches» found reflecting the characteristic features of key French styles of the XIX century – impressionism, symbolism and modern. French influences are considered in the article also at the level of the main means of musical expressiveness – form, harmony, melodic, rhythm, texture. Griffs' musical language – colorful, saturated with various techniques, turned out to be new for American music. The style influence of the «Roman Sketches» found its continuation in the music of the USA.
