Music and Time Annotation << Back Works for the Kanteles by Albin Repnikov: in Search of a "New" Instrument E.A. Ankhimova The article considers the entry of the karelian national instrument kantele into academic culture. The stages of this process are discussed: the transformation of the design of the instrument, the emergence of a system of learning to play on it, the formation of a modern repertoire for the kantele. There are two opuses by Albin Repnikov which attract special attention: Runa-cantata "The Birth of the Kantele" and Concerto for two kanteles with a chamber orchestra. Repnikov is known as the reformer of the bayan repertoire. The article puts the hypothesis that his opuses for the kantele extend the traditional interpretation of this instrument, which have developed in the music of the composers of Karelia. Rune-cantata and Concerto are two large works that were created in parallel. They find some analogies at different levels: they have common thematics, they have similar genre and timbre solutions. But they differently solve the problem of updating the repertoire for the kantele, expanding the performing role of the instrument. As a result, the potential of the «new» interpretation of the instrument, which is incorporated in the Rune-cantata, finds continuation in the Concerto.
