Music and Time Annotation << Back Mandolin in the Contemporary Musical World: Germany E.N. Mochalova The article is devoted to the development of mandolin art in Germany – one of the key centers of mandolin existence in the XX– XXI centuries. Innovative developments of leading experts in the field of performance, pedagogy, study of the history of instruments and performing traditions of different epochs – K. Wölki, M. Wilden-Hüsgen and their followers were fundamental and became the basis of the theoretical and methodological complex of the modern German performing school. The innovations of R. Seifert in the field of instrumentation made it possible to significantly expand the range of acoustic and timbre characteristics of the mandolin and the range of its technical and expressive possibilities. These achievements had a complex effect on the entire evolution of the mandolin art, which provided a multiplicative effect in various areas: improving the performing technique, developing repertoire and methodological thought, developing the vocational education system on the mandolin, expanding the social base of performance. This enabled the instrument, which was presented in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century mainly in the context of collective amateur music making, breaking the period of desocialization after the fall of the Nazi regime, nowadays entering the sphere of professional art and becoming one of the most widespread in academic musical practice.
