The Genre of the Simphonie Concertante in Francein the Second Halfof the XVIII Century |

The Simphonie Concertante was a popular genre for solo instruments with orchestra in France in the 1770s–1780s which had
a significant influence on the development of instrumental performance. This article examines the existence of the genre in the
French capital and points out the contribution of the Mannheim school to the development of instrumental music in France. The
article analyses two Simphonies Concertantes – J.-B. Davaux op. 7 No. 2 A-dur (1773) for two obligate violins and orchestra and
K. Stamitz No. 3 D dur (1774) for obligate violin and cello with orchestra. They were both appreciated by the audience and were
regularly published in Paris during the 1770s.
