Phonetics as a Timbre Determinant in L. Nono, K. Stockhausen, M. Kagel and D. Ligeti's Vocal and Choral Compositions (Boundary of 1950–1960) |

Article is devoted to a phenomenon of phoneme composition in vocal music by the leading composers of the Western European post-war vanguard – L. Nono, K. Stockhausen, M. Kagel and D. Ligeti. The author is researching works created during the period from 1956 to 1962. Main research issue – an influence of specific phonetic features of various languages on the timbre edition of choral composition. Special attention is paid in article to works by K Stockhausen (“Carré”) and D. Ligeti (“Aventures”) which have presented the first samples of pure phoneme composition created on material of the phonemes borrowed from the International Phonetic Alphabet. The analysis of these works allows to draw a conclusion on influence of phoneme composition on further development of vocal music in Western Europe.
