The article is devoted to the works of our contemporary, composer, G.V. Chernov, Professor of composition and instrumentation of Russian Gnesins Academy of music for Russian folk orchestra. The material for analysis served as a Symphony for Russian folk orchestra, in which the composer acts as a continuer of traditions of the Russian symphonic school (Borodin’s, Taneev’s, Glazunov’s, Tchaikovsky’s, Prokofiev’s Symphonies). Given the article’s declarations and evaluation of the composer himself are the best characteristic that detects such features of his symphonies, as the democracy of language, orientation to the largest audiences, reliance on folk-song and dance material, the existence of programmes. The use of traditional schemes (a Sonatasymphonic cycle, Sonata form, strophic form) is combined with the original decision of the form of each cycle. Polyphonic mastery is accented. Colorful orchestral writing and mastery of the orchestra are marked.
