of the Second Half of the XIXth –
First Half of the XXth Centuries |
Yu.V. Glazkova
The article is about the interpretation of French organ repertoire of the second half of the XIXth – first half of the XXth centuries,
especially about articulation. Author’s arguments are based on excerpts from treatises by one of the founders of the French organ
performing school – by M. Dupre, on the memoirs by M. Duruflé, I. A. Braudo and others of their contemporaries organists, and
also on the information from international master-classes of the contemporary outstanding performers of the French romantic organ
music: O. Latry and Ben van Oosten. The article discusses the features of the sign on the musical scores, as well as playing legato,
the differences in signing and performing accords in musical text and nuances of French tradition staccato playing the organ.
Keywords: French organ music, romantic organ, articulation, C. Franck, M. Dupré.
