The Composer Vladimir Blok:
Biographic Sketches |
E.V. Biteryakova
The Moscow Conservatory alumnus, Vladimir Blok (1932–1996) left a brightly trace in the Russian music culture of the last century.
An apprentice of A.N. Aleksandrov, V. Shebalin, and Emil Gilels, Blok has become famous as Sergey Prokofiev’s and E. Grieg’s music
expert, an outstanding restorer of some compositions of Russian composers, a successful Russian folklore collector, a delicate music
teacher and an author of several tutorials, as well as a founder of The Russian Edvard Grieg Society and one of the initiators of The
International Grieg Society and The International Edvard Grieg Piano Competition. On the basis of documents from the composer’s
home archive and from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory archive, introduced in the article, emerges a portrait of a man with quiet
tough personal and artistic life, who managed however to implement his talent in different fields of music life.
Keywords: Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, archival materials, Emil Gilels, Sergey Prokofi ev, Edvard Grieg, The Russian Grieg
Society.
