Music and Time Annotation << Back Polystylistic or Stylistic Eclecticism Justifi cation N.I. Ilicheva The article is devoted to the analysis of the stylistic evolution of European art and polystylism as one of its stages. Throughout most of the known period of the development of art principle unity of style was a mandatory attribute of the artwork and the style was considered the criterion of perfection artwork and professional skills of its Creator. But since the beginning of the twentieth century, the situation is gradually changing in culture and a new philosophy of creativity, reflected in the first Neoclassicism, and then in the polystylistic. For centuries existed in the art a tendency to stylistic pluralism, gets in the postmodern era «carte Blanche» and becomes a characteristic feature of various aspects of cultural life. It finds its most complete expression in music. Part of the cultural elite views the situation as a catastrophe of art and culture in General, and the other evaluates stylistic pluralism as one of the most original manifestations of postmodernism. The article discusses different points of view about the content and direction of stylistic evolution, as well as some background and subjective reasons for the formation of a new style in Russian musical culture.
