Music and Time Annotation << Back In Honour of the 200th Anniversary of the Birth of Mikhail Lermontov: on the Jubilee (1914) Cantata «Your Poem» by Сesar Cui J. Lavrikova C. Cui is the creator of a large number of choral works, written in a variety of genres: the choruses a cappella, choir with accompaniment, vocal quartets, spiritual writings, operatic choruses. Some of them are well known, and others – are executable or a little, or not at all forgotten. By the latter category applies cantata «Your poem» for mixed chorus and orchestra (or. 96), composed by in 1914 as a tribute to the great poet Mikhail Lermontov. The author examines the historical conditions for the creation of the cantata, conducts analytical work, revealing the features of form and content, harmony and texture, and above all – the specifics of choral works. Text of the work, although it did not meet Cui, was the basis for the work, in which a major role is played by the author’s evaluation – a musical drama, series of events, meaningful and emotional perception of the content. Composer – choral master of the genre – appears in the cantata in a kind of stylistic perspective, embodies the unity of form and content, «artistic task» and means of expression. Much attention is paid to the question «tembrizatsiya» works as an important musical and expressive elements, especially significant in the field of choral art. Cantata C. Cui «Your poem» is undoubtedly of interest, complementing and extending our understanding of the musical culture of the XIX century.
