Bach’s Chaconne Arranged by A.I. Siloti |
S. Izotova
The publication is devoted to the activity of Russian pianist and conductor Alexander Siloti (1863–1945) as an author of the transcriptions and editions of the works created by Johann Sebastian Bach. One of Siloti’s transcriptions – the arrangement of Chaconne d-moll from the Partita for solo violin BWV 1004 by J. S. Bach – is considered in the article. Siloti’s processing is given in the comparison with its prototype, known transcription made by Ferruccio Busoni. Comparative analysis of the two transcriptions allowed to reveal main features of Alexander Siloti’s transcription, its aesthetic and practical value. The author of the article made a conclusion about the need of returning this treatment in concert and training repertoire. The dates of Siloti’s concerts in which Chaconne performed in the original, and in different processings, are shown in the publication. The supplement contains the full text of Bach-Siloti’s Chaconne, verified by the author of the article on the original editions, including their copies with editorial markings stored in the archives of Stanford and Maryland Universities (USA).
