Music and Time Annotation << Back Mannheim in W. A. Mozart’s Eyes A. Dvornitskaya The article is dedicated to the musical culture of Mannheim in 1770s. Fragments from Mozart’s letters (the composer visited the town in 1777 and 1778) were taken as a base point for characteristics of the culture of Mannheim. Besides the article relies on contemporary studies of western musicologists. The author concerns some questions, which were not covered in any researches in Russia. Features of the Mannheim cappella, musical theatre, such genres as symphony, German opera, church music have analyzed. The main idea of the article is that the Mannheim culture of XVIII century reflected a lot of new tendencies in musical art and was a center of their realization. All these facts help to look at the importance of Mannheim at the second half of XVIII century in a new light.
