Leopold Mozart (a Portrait of the Musician) |
I. Semeryaga
The paper is dedicated to Leopold Mozart, a composer, violinist, clavierist, a bright person and original musician of his time, who’s name is still kept in the background of the genius of his son. Some facts of Leopold Mozart’s musical career are given, his treatise on violin playing «Versuch einer gründlichen Violinschule» and its role in the history of performing art are considered. The author characterizes L. Mozart’s orchestral works, which are rather typical for the early Classicism but at the same time are marked with original texture devices, inventive orchestration and sound effects. Leopold Mozart’s Sinfonia da caccia (1756) with four French horns is set as an example of picturesque images and simple musical languages. In this work Leopold Mozart constructed a picture of aristocratic hunt using different sound effects and basing on its traditional musical attributes.
Keywords: Leopold Mozart, early Classicism, school of play, violin, French horn, symphony.
