The article is devoted to parallel analysis of two striking examples of Russian piano concerto of the second half of the ХХth and the beginning of the XXIst centuries. We consider the Concerto for piano and strings by Alfred Schnittke (1979) and the Third piano concerto with orchestra by Efrem Podgaits (2005). After two and a half decades, there is a worthy works developing the line of tragic concept in the genre of piano concerto. A review of these works is intended to prove that the traditions established by A. Schnittke have continued in the work by E. Podgayts. Analogs of these works are not so much. Tragic concept refers to basic problems of human existence, to the eternal question about finiteness of life. Interpretation of solos represent sparticular interest, because these solos abound toccata and percussion principles of touch – main «guides» of tragic concepts.
