Music and Time Annotation << Back Authentic Forms of Carnival Music of Rio de Janeiro in the XIXth Century E. Konopleva The article highlights the problems of formation of authentic carnival music of Rio de Janeiro in the XIXth century, which had developed in a close relationship with the carnival forms, and has become one of the main carriers of the national identity of Brazilian Carnival. The genesis and the socio-historical conditions of the emergence of authentic musical forms are analyzed. Their genre structure is characterized as well as the specific features, such as the unity of vocal, dance and instrumental components, the synthesis of elements of European music with features of Afro-Brazilian music tradition, and the interaction of folklore and author`s work. The author emphasizes the importance of the mentioned sphere of Brazilian popular music that has prepared a culmination point in the history of Brazilian carnival associated with the emergence of samba - a genre that has become the personification of the modern carnival show. The article draws to the conclusion that authentic carnival music of XIXth century largely determined the dynamics of the carnival forms and has become the main source of distinctive national identity, contributing to the enrichment of musical and poetic language not only of Brazilian, but of the world culture.
