Music and Time Annotation << Back Phonk as a Phenomenon of Hybrid Musical Culture: Problems of Genesis, Stylistics and Typology of the Genre K.E. Shevchenko The article is devoted to a comprehensive study of phonk as a unique phenomenon of hybrid musical culture of the XXI century. The paper provides a detailed analysis of the genesis of the genre, revealing its origins in Memphis rap of the 90s and the influence of related electronic trends. The key stylistic features of phonk are considered, including characteristic harmonic, rhythmic and timbre techniques that form its recognizable lo-fi sound and dark atmosphere. A typology of the genre is proposed, delineating major subgenres such as Drift Phonk and House Phonk based on stylistic and tempo criteria. Particular attention is paid to substantiating the hybrid nature of phonk as a result of the synthesis of different musical traditions and technological innovations, emphasizing the role of digital instruments, sampling and online platforms in its formation and dissemination. The conclusion emphasizes the prospects for further study of phonk as an important phenomenon of contemporary musical culture, refl ecting the processes of globalization, digitalization and continuous transformation of the musical landscape of the 21st century.
