Music and Time Annotation << Back Issues of the Use of Mugham in the Works of Azerbaijani Composers on Historical Themes N.Z. Babazade The article is devoted to the use of mugham in the works of Azerbaijani composers on historical subjects. The article describes the program works related to the historical events that took place in Azerbaijan during the period of independence. Although the program works are mainly devoted to the events of January 20, 1990, the Khojaly genocide, the Karabakh war, they are united by a common theme of martyrdom. Although the title of many works is associated with a historical event, most of them are dedicated to the memory of the martyrs. All these works refl ect the issues of using mugham in different ways. Of these, the author highlighted the infl uence of the artistic and emotional content of a particular mugham on the compositional structure of the work, the reliance of the themes of the work on the melodic structure of the mugham, the inclusion of the performance of mugham on folk instruments.
