A.V. Sveshnikov's Pedagogical
Activity as the Foundation
of a Modern Conducting
and Choral School |

The events of history, politics, and culture of our country became the foundation for the development of the school of Russian choral culture in the twentieth century.
The opening of conservatories, the fl ourishing of amateur performances, the formation of the Soviet school of composition contributed to the work of the great masters
of choral art (K.B. Bird, A.A. Yurlov, A.V. Sveshnikov, etc.). However, the principles of their work, the traditions of conducting and choral schools of the twentieth century,
so relevant for modern choral conductors, are insuffi ciently structured and generalized in the scientifi c literature. Information that is not fully presented in scientifi c works
(it is scattered in fi lms, monographs, reviews of colleagues, students) makes it diffi cult for students to get acquainted with the methods of the best masters of the last
century and impoverishes their pedagogical practice. In this study, the authors, based on the analysis and synthesis of available information sources, structure the
pedagogical activity of A.V. Sveshnikov at the Moscow Conservatory in the period from 1944–1974 (principles of work, methods of teaching and educating students,
scientifi c activity, etc.). The conducted research is designed to draw the attention of future choral conductors to the complex component of the profession – not only
technical and methodological tasks, but also important personal qualities of a professional, which the master emphasized in the process of educating students.
