Synthesis of European and Chinese Fret Systems as the Basis of Sun Yiqian’s Individual Style |
Guo Zhiyu
This article uses the example of the works «Fluttering Grains» and «Spring Dance» by the famous Chinese composer and pianist Sun Yiqiang to explore the synthesis of European and Chinese fret systems, as well as techniques that the composer so skillfully combined and made the basis of his individual style. Turning to traditional Chinese pentatonics, the musician diluted it with such techniques of the European classical school as polytonality or dominant organ point, thereby adding national fl avor and original sound to the composition. The famous pianist was not afraid to use innovative techniques, to combine Western and Chinese musical elements, folklore and modern melodies. Each composition of Sun is unique and has an undeniable artistic value. Mostly, it is his contribution that has added the piano music in China its own characteristics and distinctive features.
Keywords: Chinese piano music, Sun Yiqian, mode, pentatonic, polytonal.
