Music and Time Annotation << Back Features of Melisms in the Context of Music of the XX Century on the Example of «Makrokosmos» of George Crumb (Volume I) and Piano Music of Azerbaijani Composers G.M. Bakirova This article examines the peculiarities of ornaments and performing techniques in the context of music of the XX century on the example of “Makrokosmos” (I book) of G. Crumb. and piano music of Azerbaijani composers. Achievements in the technique of writing in the musical art of the XX century influenced piano music and ornamentation. Along with the traditional ones, new techniques of interspersing melisms in the musical text began to find application. In innovative works, along with keyboards, there were trills, glissandos, etc., performed on metal and wooden parts of the instrument, as well as on strings. Metal and other fi nger picks were used to make the embellishments. The piano music of Azerbaijani composers, which originally reflected new ways of expressing melismas, did not lagged behind the trends in world music of the 20th century. Thus, an excursion into the history of the development of ornamentation in modern Azerbaijani piano music testifies to the tendencies of introducing traditions inherent in world music into the work of Azerbaijani composers, and the reflection of the peculiarities of Azerbaijani national music through ornamentation.
