Zaytceva The article substantiates the need to study the practice of staging the masterpiece of Russian musical art-the opera "Eugene Onegin" by P.I. Tchaikovsky-to identify trends in the development of modern opera theater, to determine the prospects of various creative ideas. The authors identify the features of the production of the opera "Eugene Onegin" by P.I. Tchaikovsky at the Moscow Theater named after E.V. Kolobov "Novaya Opera" (1996), and describe the director’s interpretation of E. Kolobov and S. Artsibashev, which enhanced the tragic nature of the composition. The features of S. Barkhin's stage solutions, the ways of changing the semantic load of the stage, and the techniques of visual dramaturgy are determined.
