The proposed material explores the semantic signs encrypted by G. Bizet in the masterpiece of the world musical heritage – the opera "Carmen". The composer synthesizes in his creation the historical, mythological and religious principles, which allows him to realize a unique, innovative sample, the purpose of which is to convey the full flavor of genuine feelings of a free, not burdened by social framework, personality. Embodying the techniques advanced for the 19 th century, the maestro creates a brilliant composition, the relevance of which remains undeniable to this day. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of the psychological portrait of the rebel, the development of the relationship between the gypsy and the Basque, as well as the determination of the place of the gitana in the opera. It is noteworthy and, at the same time, signifi cant that in the image of the main character, Bizet contains the only correct way of forming and transforming a free and fully developed personality.
