"Macrocosmos". George Сrumb’s Supercycle: Means of Combining Parts |

When considering the supercycle "Macrocosmos" by Crumb from the standpoint of through-the-art drama, the means of combining the cycles into a single concept, the main conclusion is formed: on the one hand, the "Macrocosmos" is contextual both to the general style of Crumb and to the general ideas of musical art of the second half of the 20th century, on the other hand, it has a number of specific features, which allows us to note its individuality and self-existence. The image of the Cosmos received a full characterization precisely in "Macrocosmos": not only outer space with its various objects (stars, planets in "Macrocosmos IV"), but also the Cosmos perceived by a person, contemplated by him from Earth (in "Macrocosmos III" as natural phenomenon), as well as the Cosmos of human life, associated with the life of mankind in general, its phenomena (in "Macrocosmos I" and "Macrocosmos II"). This article discusses the means of combining four cycles into a single supercycle.
