Music and Time Annotation << Back John Cage – 8 Pieces from the Multi-faceted Life and Work of the Poly-artist A.N. Lipov This publication, which is a translation of an scientific article, published by the publishing house of the private university of Anton Bruckner, analyzes the main milestones in the life and work of John Cage (1912–1992) – a famous American composer, philosopher, poet, musicologist and artist, who was one of the first in the avant-garde music of the early twentieth century, used it to create aleatorics, "random operations", electronic music and non-traditional use of musical and non-musical instruments that considered the factor of randomness and uncertainty as an essential and formative element of musical production. The composer radically changed the perception of music, and his musical ideas largely determined the development of not only new trends in music, but also the visual culture of the postwar avant-garde.
