New in Reading the Old Russian Monody (on the Material of the Notolineyny Manuscripts of the Solovetsky Collection) |
N.G. Sergeeva
The article is devoted to the study of the znamenny chant written in the Kievan notation. In the research there are used notolineyny manuscripts of the Solovetsky collection (late 17th – early 18th centuries) stored in the Russian National Library.
Recording methods of mutations of the obihodny scale were examined on the material of the singing book Oktoyih. During the work we identified sustainable circle of chants, their melody contains mutations both traditional and previously unknown. The scale displacement in Kievan notation is indicated by the clef shift (most often an alto clef is changed to the discant clef) or key signatures.
However, there are examples where two recording methods are used simultaneously. Such cases have several ways to decrypt. The results of the work once again confirm complexity and ambiguity of the Kievan notation reading in ancient manuscripts of the 17th – early 18th centuries.
Keywords: Znamenny Chant, Kievan notation, transposition of fourths, C-clef, mutation of the obihodny scale, Solovetsky collection, notolineyny manuscripts.
