Music and Time Annotation << Back From the Past to the Future: Music of the Renaissance and Modernity in the Program Diaghilev Festival 2016 E.V. Krivonogova The article is devoted to the musical component of the Xth Diaghilev festival held in Perm (June, 17–30, 2016). The festival multi-genred in its concept includes, in addition to musical events, theatrical, exhibition, educational ones. Repertory priorities of the festival program are largely determined by musical tastes of Artistic Director and conductor Teodor Currentzis. With the variety of the concert programs it is obvious that the main attention is attracted to early music (Renaissance, Baroque) and the music of XX–XXI centuries. The French and the Belgian ensembles of early music presented the first tendency of historically informed performance. The world premiere of Philippe Hersant’s choral opera «Tristia» has become the major event of the festival which represents the second tendency. Introduction to the composition of Hersant lets speak of it as a significant work with spiritual and philosophical subjects organically combining the musical styles of various eras and cultures. A number of concert programs of the festival 2016 fit into the paradigm of the repertoire «polarity» due to the presentation of besides the music of the past also rarely performed works of the XXth century and the newly created compositions of XXIst century.
