Musical Life of Irkutsk in the Period of the Great Patriotic War |

This article is the first historical review of activity of the composers, living and working in the first half of the XX century in the
oldest cultural center of Eastern Siberia – Irkutsk. In the 1900–1910 some famous Russian composers of this period lived and worked here: I.A. Sats, E.M. Dreyzin, I.P. Raysky. In the next decades in Irkutsk there lived such composers as P.M. Berlinsky, G.E. Lane, Yu.D. Matveev, E.G. Hinkis, V.A. Lebedev. The activity of these composers left a trace in development of musical culture of the region. In the 1943–1951 Irkutsk has own branch of the Union of Soviet composers. The history of activity of Irkutsk composers in the first half of the XX century till today was practically not studied. On the basis of the materials, collected by the author during the work in archives and libraries of Moscow, Irkutsk and Novosibirsk, and also communication with witnesses, the author want to correct this annoying situation in the studying of Siberian musical culture.
