Music and Time Annotation << Back The Image of the Devil in the Works of Alexander Pushkin and Mikhail Lermontov G.R. Konson The original interpretation of works of Alexander Pushkin and Mikhail Lermontov, whose plots are the basis for a set of musical compositions, is offered in article. This article analyzes the relationship between man and the devil. The subject of study in Pushkin’s works is the content of a kind commercial deal to sell the soul. In the works of Pushkin’s «Boris Godunov», «Queen of Spades», «Don Giovanni», «The Tale of the Priest and his worker Balda», «Mozart and Salieri», «The Tale of the Golden Cockerel» the diverse sales’ situation of unique priceless good are considered. In the writings of Lermontov – the poem «The Demon», the novel «A Hero of Our Time» – the demon is revealed as contradictory image – the spirit of evil and romantic utopian which fell in love. The image of the devil in a work of art is considered from the viewpoint of violations of human society’s moral and, therefore, interpreted as one of the conceptual warnings about the threat to human life. This warning is usually accompanied by the appearance of incidents and produces an explosive impression in the drama. In general, the images of the devil treated in the works of Pushkin and Lermontov as fantasy of man who rebels against reality, a kind of modality of his spirit, that break the outside of his own existence. The research methodology is innovative. The compositions chosen here are considered not in their possible musical embodiment (i.e. from positions of the musical analysis), and through a prism of literary criticism, psychology and philosophy. It is possible to assume that such foreshortening will give new impulses for future musicological analysis. Keywords: man, devil, demon, attitude, selling the soul, image.
