Having settled down in Paris in 1824 G. Rossini, while preparing his operas for performance, taught the singers of Académie Royale de musique the basics of Italian singing traditions: vocal and improvisatorial skill, ease, velocity and elegance of voice, natural phonation. The greatest changes in singing skill dealt with tenors, whose head voice, falsetto, was developed by Rossini. He affected mostly A. Nourrit with haute-contre, a pretty, fine and agile voice, who possessed a splendid coloratura technique and falsetto. However, traditions of Italian vocal art founded by G. Rossini in Paris were changed by G. Duprez, a tenor, in 1837. He could generate high pitched sounds with chest voice and created tenore di forza, a new type of male voice.
