S. Zaytseva
In the paper musical notation features in Sergei Slonimsky's chamber works are analyzed. Slonimsky is a well-known composer of St. Petersburg school of the period between the 1950s and the early 2000s. The introduction of the research touches upon the significance of notation in historical process and mentions its special role in twentieth-century music and in Slonimsky’s chamber works in particular. Slonimsky's compositional method relies primarily on classical music traditions, nevertheless it is not infrequent that he appeals to unconventional methods of playing musical instruments and of modern notations. Several characteristic features of Slonimsky’s notation are viewed as indicators of the composer's original thinking. The analytical section of the paper focuses on the works written by Slonimsky in the second half of the 20th century, namely «Lyric Verses», «Concerto-Buffo», «Antiphones» and «Coloristic Fantasy».
