Music and Time Annotation << Back «Sticherion Self-similars of Znamenny Chant». Workbook for the Russian Church Singing Course S. Yakovleva The principle of podoben (similarity) is a fundamental one for the ancient Russian church music. The main information about such complex phenomenon as podoben (similarity) is given in the methodical workbook beeing shown on the example of self-similar sticherion of znamenny chant. The methodical development is divided into two parts. There is the theoretical part (Lecture) and the practical part (Practice) which allow us to connect the historical overview of singing on podoben (similarity) with learning of the corresponding audio material. The authentic stuff or the 16th and 17th century manuscripts is given. There are self-similar chants of the syllabic or syllabic and melismatic type. To show the principles of podoben chant the stichiras from the collection «Bogorodichny and krestobogorodichny chants in Eight Tones from the Menaia and the Book of Eight Tones» are given. The workbook is aimed for a broad audience. The material can be used in today’s church services.
