Khristophor Pliev’s Musical Tops

The composer and public figure Khristophor Soslanovich Pliev (1923–1995) went down in history of the Ossetian music as a creator of the first national musical performances – the operetta «Spring Song» (1960) and the one-act opera in Russian «Kosta». Kh. Pliev was one of the first leaders of the national culture whose fame has topped the country. Pliev's musical comedies and operettas was successfully staged in theaters in Tomsk, Lviv, Khabarovsk, Gorky, Tashkent, Tbilisi, Irkutsk, Saratov, Zhitomir. The composer realized his exceptional gift for melody in songs, including popular songs «A Little Dzhigit», «The Mountain Dweller's song», «Zali». The vocal-choral and theatre works of the composer, including the cantata, oratorio, triptych for soprano and piano «The Soldier’s Widow», the ballet «The Forest Girl» and the opera «Fatima» are distinguished by the brightness of musical themes and the theatrical expressiveness. Kh. Pliev was great public figure and for 16 years headed the Union of Composers of North Ossetian.
